5 Easy Houseplants

July 2024

As a nation we love our plants and houseplants are more popular than ever.  They’re also a great way to bring to life living rooms, bedrooms and even bathrooms, whilst adding a bit of personality to your home. If you struggle to keep plants alive or just don’t know where to start, we’ve handpicked 5 (almost) unkillable plants that we think will look great in your Grainger home.

1.      Snake Plant - Sansevieria

This hardy plant will do just fine in any type of light, from low light areas to bright, full sunlight - though they will fare best in indirect sunlight. With attractively patterned leaves that don't flop or spread, the snake plant is great for tight spaces. And because they are native to the deserts of West Africa, they don’t require much watering.

2.     ZZ Plant

Treat it mean, keep it keen.  The ZZ plant is low maintenance it and will tolerate pretty much any kind of light except strong direct sunlight. It’s virtually indestructible. The perfect plant for the ultimate brown thumb – you don’t even have to remember to water it!

3.     Succulents

Succulents come in many shapes and sizes and can be found all over the world. They generally have thick fleshy leaves that hold a lot of water. Because of this, they don’t need watering frequently. They do however enjoy bright indirect light. Water them, at most, twice a month, keep them somewhere bright and you're good to go.  It’s worth noting that some can get quite large and others produce offsets (babies or succulent pups), ideal to give away as gifts!

4.    Boston Fern

This one is for the heavy-handed. The Boston Fern has a super damp native environment so is very forgiving towards overwatering.  This houseplant is very easy to grow provided you never allow the roots to dry out.  They have lots of personality and ideal for a bathroom.

5.     Spider Plant

These are one of the easiest plants to care for and can be kept in less sunny places in your home. The Spider plant’s lovely arching leaves mean it can make a statement as a tabletop or hanging plant. Mature plants eventually shoot out babies which can be separated to create a whole new plant.
